Talking Craft Kits To Give As Gifts

What You Need

See below within each kit for supplies and directions.

How To Make It

Sewing Kit
Pincushion, needles, thread, good scissors, fabric scraps - this one is easy to put together if you sew, or if someone you know sews. The more variety in kinds of fabric or sizes of pieces, the better. Ribbons, lace, trims, buttons, snaps or a bit of velcro can add incredibly to the collection. If the child enjoys the kit, you can give them a 'refill' for a future present. You can also include easy directions for making a pincushion.

Puppet Making Kit
Felt pieces and socks to make bodies - add wiggle eyes, yarn, lace, trims, jingle bells, cotton balls, pompons, fabric scraps, needle and thread, possibly a pair of scissors and thick craft glue. Here's a pattern to print: Mac Pattern (72 dpi), PC Pattern (90 dpi)

Woodworking Kit
Small hammer, some nails, and an assortment of wood scraps is all it would take for a younger child. (Be sure their parent will supervise them with the kit!). Simple directions for a birdhouse, and appropriate lumber (possibly pre-cut) would work for an older child.

Beadie Keychains Kit
Print some patterns from the internet, and give the child the URLs to get more. Buy a large bag of pony beads and some lanyard, and they're set! Visit our Beadie Page for more information.

Make Some Hair Things Kit
Buy some plain barrettes and some inexpensive scrunchies - they come in packs with 3-5 scrunchies on one card, pick up some sparkly gold and silver fabric paint, ribbons, some beads, lace, etc. You can include our Hair Stuff Ideas to help the child get started.

Jewelry Making Kit
Depending on the age of the child, select beads (large pony beads are great for preschoolers) and maybe a few special beads or charms that match the child's interests. Elastic cord for pony beads, bead string and clasps for bigger kids.

Make a ..... Kit
When you find a craft project on the web that you think the child would enjoy, print out the directions and gather all the materials for it.

Make a Craft Idea 'Book'
Collect project ideas and site URLs and make a booklet for the child filled with rainy day projects. Include some of the materials they might not find easily around the house.
